4 Unique Haploid Cells. Although they both make up the cells in the body, there is a big difference between haploid and diploid cells. Gametes are haploid cells reproduced by meiosis.
Haploid cells contain a single set of chromosomes. This independent assortment, in which the chromosome inherited from either the father or mother can sort into any gamete, produces the potential for tremendous genetic variation. The most common type of haploid cells are gametes or sex cells.
